I know that the UIL High School Football coaches are meeting this week (virtually, of course) and have heard from a reliable source (a high school football coach) that one of the topics will be the viability of a regular fall season and contingency plans for the event that the season has to be delayed. Options include a delay to the season, the possibility of a spring season or part of a season in the fall and part in the spring. They will also discuss the option of playing games in the absence of fans. I really cannot say what I expect to happen. It will be an interesting next couple of months.

I could very well imagine a spring season being strongly considered, especially after Governor Abbott remained uncommitted to the status of high school football as of his last interview. What makes things difficult is that some of these decisions may have to take place at a time when there is still a lot of uncertainty about the virus.

Can you imagine two seasons in 2021? One in the spring and another in the fall? It’s a horrible wait, but resulting in a fun 2021!

I think the most pressing questions at this time are: 1) what to do about fans and 2) what is the contingency plan in case of a another wave in late fall. I could see a scenario where the season can finish but playoffs would have to be delayed. Season isn't really all that far off and still question. At least, for now, summer workouts appear to be set to take off soon.

I could see districts having reduced capacity games or no fans at all. Imagine paid access to streamed games. Or rising ticket prices for limited amount of available stadium seats.

These past two days all seem to point to, at best, a delayed start to the season-and it would be shortened. A move to the Spring may be the only possible solution at this time.

Looks like the reshuffling of games due to the late start date gives New Braunfels only a 9-game season what a shame. Unless they pick up a Week 7 or Week 11 game.

i think, in the end, not every team will complete a full schedule. it is highly unlikely that a full season will be played without some games being postponed or cancelled. even if one school has no cases, they have to rely on every other team also having no cases. that's just way too many schools and kids.

Well good news is our hospital numbers are coming down and case numbers seem to be on the decline. I think if we can get these numbers down more we have a good shot at seeing this season through with minimal delays. Hoping so anyway.

i hope we can get the season in, of course, but we'll see. in the meantime, friday night lights will have a very different look and feel to it. steele has already announced no season tickets will be sold this season and that the likely seating will be at 25% capacity. so, not sure who will be allowed to attend the games.

I still say we move it to early 2021, vaccines would have started and teams can go back to their schedules before all this man made virus started.

Wishful thinking seems to be driving decisions at this time, as opposed to data and sound judgement. There are already two area programs that have been impacted by cases (Navarro and Pleasanton) and these are more rural schools at that. It is highly likely that there will be numerous game cancellations this season which could impact the season as a whole.

At this point all I care about is that New Braunfels can make it through week 2 and get to play Seguin. After that, it’s ok if the season ends early LOL.

let's see how it goes with the smaller divisions as they started friday. i will say that the atmosphere was decidedly different-at least from what i could tell from the television highlights.
