Quincy Stewart has been named the head football coach at Sam Houston, the San Antonio ISD announced Thursday morning. Stewart replaces Melton Schultz, who stepped down after posting a 24-30 record in four seasons. Stewart has served as linebackers coach for the last two seasons at Duncanville, which advanced to the Class 6A Division I state championship game in each of those years. It’s his second head-coaching job. He coached Venus to a 6-14 mark in 2016 and 2017. Stewart, 41, played three seasons in the NFL with the 49ers in 2001 and 2002 and the Jets in 2003. He was also a member of the Edmonton Eskimos in 2005 when they won the Canadian Football League’s Grey Cup. He played college football at Louisiana Tech. www.mysanantonio.com/sports/high_school/high_school_football/article/Sam-Houston-hires-former-NFL-player-as-head-14962228.phpThis should be interesting as Sam Houston is rumored to be moving back to 5A D2 next season.
