i read that the northside school district will have to split up into two different school districts and also that there are quite a few 5A schools moving up. also, it's possible westlake and LT may have to move back to Region 2. will be interesting to see what happens in february.

Looks like the opposite turned out true. Several 6A Valley schools are dropping, which will create a void in the lower bracket with districts that were already not maxed out in size. Expect to see some San Antonio 6A schools dropping in to fill that void (since Northside ISD is splitting between two districts now). Austin district stays in Region 4. There is even an outside chance that the Round Rock/Leander ISD district joins the region.

I figure since we already know who our 6A schools are, I want to try my hand at predicting these realignments. Here goes:
25 (7 teams) Austin Akins Austin Bowie Austin SFA Austin Del Valle Austin Lake Travis Austin Westlake Buda Hays
26 (8 teams) New Braunfels San Marcos Smithson Valley Cibolo Steele Schertz Clemens Converse Judson San Antonio Wagner San Antonio East Central
27 (7 teams) San Antonio Churchill San Antonio Johnson San Antonio Madison San Antonio MacArthur San Antonio Lee San Antonio Reagan San Antonio Roosevelt
28 (7 teams) San Antonio Jay San Antonio Holmes San Antonio Marshall San Antonio O’Connor San Antonio Clark San Antonio Brandeis San Antonio South San
29 (7 teams) Del Río Eagle Pass San Antonio Brennan San Antonio Stevens San Antonio Warren San Antonio Taft San Antonio Harlan
30 (7 teams) La Joya La Joya Juárez-Lincoln Laredo Nixon Laredo Alexander Laredo Johnson Laredo United Laredo United South
31 (8 teams) Donna North Edinburg Edinburg Economedes Edinburg North Edinburg Vela Mission PSJA PSJA North
32 (7 teams) Brownsville Hanna Brownsville Rivera Harlingen Harlingen South Los Fresnos San Benito Weslaco
The trickiest part in guessing the realignments is Northside ISD. This is the first time that Northside has 11 schools, so we have no way of knowing how they will be split. From a competitive standpoint, it would make more sense to put Brandeis and O’Connor in the lower bracket, but the UIL doesn’t create districts on competitiveness, so if they send those schools to the lower bracket then it will be for geographical reasons.
I could’ve crammed The Valley into two districts, but I honesty think the UIL tries to create equitable districts and I’m not sure there would be a 9 team district along with 6 or 7 team districts. But I could be wrong.
Some upstate football fans have speculated that the Round Rock/Leander ISD district could move to Region 4, but I don’t think that’s likely for a few reasons:
It would create a 66 team region, which would leave other regions at 60, 60 and 59 schools. Yea, Region 4 is a weaker region, but as mentioned before, the UIL doesn’t align based off of competitiveness. Also, that would require Northside ISD split 9 schools/2 schools between two districts. While there is a precedent for an unequal splitting of ISD’s with Forth Worth and Cy Fair ISD’s, it’s still relativity equal in number (ex. 7 schools/4 schools), not anything as drastic as a 9/2 split. So what do you guys think?

That's good stuff Bandido, I never understood why East Central and SouthSan were never paired together, also just on geography they could be added with Del Rio and Eagle Pass.
EC SouthSan Del Rio Eagle Pass Lee?? Jay?? Holmes??

EC SouthSan Del Rio Eagle Pass Lee?? Jay?? Holmes?? I almost decided to put East Central with South San. But considering Eagle Pass and Del Río already have to drive out from the border area into West San Antonio, it seems extra burdensome to have them drive even further, across the city into the rural east side. I figured there were enough Northside ISD schools over there to keep them from driving another 45 min. But your district could come to fruition. Only the UIL knows what it will do right now. I tried pairing Del Río and Eagle Pass with the westernmost Northside ISD schools.

Final Mock Revision
25 (8 teams) Austin Akins Austin Bowie Austin SFA Austin Del Valle Austin Lake Travis Austin Westlake Austin Vandegrift Cedar Park Vista Ridge
26 (7 teams) Buda Hays New Braunfels San Marcos Cibolo Steele Schertz Clemens Converse Judson San Antonio Wagner
27 (7 teams) San Antonio Churchill San Antonio Johnson San Antonio Madison San Antonio MacArthur San Antonio Lee San Antonio Reagan San Antonio Roosevelt
28 (7 teams) San Antonio Jay San Antonio Holmes San Antonio Marshall San Antonio O’Connor San Antonio Clark San Antonio Brandeis Smithson Valley
29 (7 teams)
San Antonio Brennan San Antonio Stevens San Antonio Warren San Antonio Taft San Antonio Harlan San Antonio South San San Antonio East Central
30 (7 teams) Del Rio Eagle Pass Laredo Nixon Laredo Alexander Laredo Johnson Laredo United Laredo United South
31 (9 teams) La Joya La Joya Juárez-Lincoln Edinburg Edinburg Economedes Edinburg North Edinburg Vela Mission PSJA PSJA North
32 (8 teams) Donna North Brownsville Hanna Brownsville Rivera Harlingen Harlingen South Los Fresnos San Benito Weslaco
So I decided to do a revision because under my old mock, there were 58 teams in Region 4, which I’m finding out it’s just under the number of teams that is in a region, which is typically 60-63 or so.
This adds Leander ISD, which causes a domino effect. I also decided to reduce The Valley to two districts, which is nicer for travel (especially for La Joya ISD).
Of course then then leaves 5 Round Rock schools and Hutto to create a small 6 team district in Region 2. But I think that seems kind of small, so they might pull in Bryan from the East.
Personally, I don’t really like this mock, but it makes geographical sense. Prefer New Braunfels to not lose Smithson Valley as a district opponent. Plus it also has a 9 team district with several 7 team districts, which makes me curious if the UIL is going prioritize distance or district size parity.

Very nice work indeed BNB! Man, if it falls out this way Brennan better schedule some tough opponents for non-district games!
Also, no NB Canyon listed so I take it the opening of CISD HS at Garden Ridge will drop their enrollment down to 5a D1 level?

I was going by campus locations. But I bet it’s Brennan that will go to the south bracket. And yes, it’s been confirmed Canyon will drop to 5A after the UIL releases the cutoff numbers in December. Davenport HS opens next year and even though some students will be allowed to grandfather into Canyon, they turned in 2,026.

This should be good for NBC and I hope they begin to compete better then they have recently. I could never figure out how a school with everything going for it couldn't do better than what they have recently.
